DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 6\, 7 p.m. \nINTRODUCTION TO WILD FOODS for food\, medicine\, fire\, etc. \nWe will discuss the plants that we deem the most important to know from the standpoint of Food\, Medicine\, Fire\, Water\, Shelter\, and “other.”  These are common “multi-purpose” plants\, useful for more than only food. The plants we will be discussing are found widely  throughout North America\, and are very common in the overall Southwest.   Each plant will be rated on a scale of its relative usefulness in each of the key areas.  Rather than think in terms of simply “edibility\,” you will see that the plants we discuss are multi-purpose\, and useful for many of life’s necessities. \nYou’ll also learn which of Christopher Nyerges’ books contain the most detailed information about these multi-purpose plants.  A discussion and social time will follow. \nSponsored by Pasadena City College. DESCRIPTION:November 14\, 10 a.m. \n \n \n \n  \nSURVIVAL SKILLS INTENSIVE \nNovember 14\, 10 a.m. \n$75  ($55 for seniors and students) \n  \nHere’s a chance to practice all of the basic skills that are considered the essential skills.  We will do a little bit of everything\, and try to keep hiking to a minimum. \nKnowledge of plants and their many uses is a critical skill that relates to every other skill.  You will learn how to identify key plants\, and how to use them for food\, medicine\, fire-making\, cordage\, and more. \nFire-making is an essential survival skill\, and you should always have a few ways to make fire.  On this class\,  you will practice  primitive fire-making\, as well as cooking\, and water purification. \nAlong the way\, you will learn about emergency shelters\,  how to make cordage\, and more. \nA great day to get into the mountains with like-minded people. \nLocation details sent upon registration.  Bring a bowl\, knife\, and water. \n \n  \n  \nBooks by Nyerges available at class. \n
